Traveling Near and Far...Now More Choices

York Township
York Township offers transportation for its senior residents only, ages 55 years or older. Rides to and from York Township Hall are $2.00 each way. Essential rides (medical and grocery shopping) will be $3.00 each way. Non-essential rides (general shopping, hair salon, etc.) will be $4.00 each way. You must call to schedule transportation two (2) business days prior to your trip (Saturday and Sunday do not count as business days). You must be registered at York Township in order to participate in this program. Registration will be taken over the phone by calling (630) 620-2424. Taxi Cab Subsidy Program
The Village of Villa Park has an agreement to subsidize taxi rides for residents of Villa Park 65 years of age and over, as well as physically handicapped residents. Upon presentation of a photo ID card authorized by the Village, a $1.00 fee will be charged for each ride, per person, for transportation within the municipal boundaries of the Village. For more information on how to qualify for the photo ID contact Village Hall (630) 834-8500.

RTA Free Ride Card
RTA Free Ride Card applications are available for seniors age 65 years or older or within three weeks of their 65th birthday at the Iowa Community Center during normal business hours. Please bring proof of age such as a drivers’ license, State of IL ID card, U.S. Immigration Alien Registration Card, Medicare card (with one of the photo ID’s listed here) or a passport from any country.

Country Line Dance Lessons

Beginners and experienced dancers are invited to join instructors Kathy and Jon Wierer as they show you the latest dance steps. Singles, groups and couples are welcome, you don’t need a partner and you don’t need to preregister, just pay at the door! Please do not wear gym shoes and bring water.

6:00-7:00 p.m. Beginners (experienced dancers welcome to come early)

Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding

You’re invited to Tony n’ Tina’s wedding...where you’ll feel like a member of this dysfunctional Italian family. Lots of audience participation, an Italian buffet dinner and of course wedding cake and a champagne toast! Tickets are limited so sign-up ASAP and get ready to laugh ‘til it hurts.

Shipshewana, Indiana Amish Tour

Take a trip to Amish county, via a coach bus, and visit the famous Shipshewana flea market, cheese factory, noodle factory, quilt factory and Amish bakery. Lunch at an Amish home and a tour of the town are also included. The registration deadline is May 23rd and the trip is hosted by Maryann Sole of Lucky Lombard’s.

Debbie Reynolds

This promises to be a performance to remember as Debbie Reynolds, one of Hollywood’s most charming and endearing entertainers, takes center stage at Drury Lane to celebrate her life, music and greatest triumphs. You will love how Debbie weaves storytelling, songs, movie clips, bloopers and impressions into a montage of her life long career. Lunch is included. Please note on your registration your meal choice: roast turkey breast or roast sirloin of beef dinner. The registration deadline is June 27th.

Ho-Chunk Casino

We’re headed to Baraboo Wisconsin, via a coach bus, for an exciting day of gaming that may make you the big winner! Included is $20 in machine play and a $10 voucher towards a buffet lunch. Be sure to bring your I.D. for the vouchers, unfortunately there will be no exceptions to this policy. The registration deadline is May 30th.

Resorts Casino

We’re traveling to East Chicago, Indiana on a coach bus to visit this casino that offers $5 cash back, a delicious all-you-can- eat buffet, and ample penny, two cent, nickel, and higher denomination slots and game tables. Be sure to bring your state I.D. in order to receive the cash back and buffet vouchers, unfortunately there will be no exceptions to this policy. The registration deadline is August 8.

Venetian Night in Chicago

There’s no need to worry about parking when you travel with us to Chicago’s marvelous lighted boat parade concluding with a spectacular fireworks display. You will be dropped-off and picked up at a designated location and time. Be sure to bring your fold-up lawn chair, blanket and snacks if you like. The registration deadline is July 11th, however early registration is encouraged because seating is limited!

Rules of the Road

The Secretary of State’s office is offering free one day, “Rules of the Road” classes; a great way to tune your skills whether or not you are preparing for a driver’s test. Pre-registration is not necessary.

Milwaukee’s German Fest

Our first stop is Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin for (free) coffee and pastry and then on to the fest where you will be treated to the sights, sounds and tastes of Germany. The day’s highlights include a parade, vintage car show, seven stages with continuous entertainment, a scrumptious array of German foods, German beer, shopping with imported German gifts and more. The registration deadline is July 11.

Blood Pressure Check

The Villa Park Fire Dept. offers free blood pressure checks between 10 and 11 a.m. on the first Friday of each month at the Community Recreation Building. Please stop-in for this important screening.

Fun on the Run Van Trips

Early Bird Discount does not apply!

Hit the road with our great van drivers, Rosemary, Laurel, and Regina, as we travel to many fun and fascinating destinations. Pick-up and drop-off is at the Community Recreation Building, 320 East Wildwood. There is a maximum of 13 seats per trip, so register early for your favorites. The transportation fee is $16 per person, round trip, and must be paid at least one week in advance. You pay admission, food and any other expenses. NOTE: Please pay close attention to dates and times.

NOTE: Call (630) 834-8525 to register by phone with a credit card if you already have a current registration form on file. Registration forms may be completed at either the Iowa Community Center or Community Recreation Building. Registration will also be accepted through the mail with a check.

Museum Campus Free Day
It’s campus free day and you can visit the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and/or Museum of Science and Industry at no charge. Lunch is on your own.

Swedish Days 59th Annual Midsummer Festival/Geneva
Good food, drink, music and live entertainment are sure to make this a great time. The arts and crafts show plus great shopping in the historic business district will add to the fun. Free admission, lunch is on your own.

Brookfield Zoo & Sawa’s Restaurant
Visit the zoo’s newest residents, enjoy the butterfly exhibit plus the other zoo inhabitants during our visit. Then it’s off to Sawa’s Restaurant for a delicious buffet meal. General zoo admission is; adults $11, age 65 and over $7. Butterfly exhibit admission; adults $3, age 65 and over $2.

Cuneo Museum and Long Grove
This museum and gardens are an architectural landmark in Lake County. We will tour the estate, which includes extensive gardens, a tropical plant conservatory, deer and peacock pens. Admission is free! Then we will head to long grove for shopping and lunch.

Jelly Belly Factory and Lamb’s Farm
We’re in for a sweet treat as we tour this large warehouse and distribution center aboard the Jelly Belly Express. You’ll enjoy candy making videos, candy sampling and a visit to the onsite shop to purchase Jelly Belly’s. Then we are off to Lamb’s Farm for shopping and if you wish, a tasty lunch at the Country Inn. No charge for the tour!

Temple Lipizzan Horse Show and Stable
Tour Enjoy this marvelous performance of Lipizzan horses from the youngest foals to the most highly trained stallions, performing to classical music. Shows are performed in an outdoor arena (or indoors if weather is inclement). Tickets are $18 (seniors 65 + pay $15) and include a 90 minute show and self-guided tour of the stables and farm. A café and souvenir shop will complete your visit.

Chinatown 29th Annual Summer Fair
We’ll witness a Lion Dance procession, live music, dance performances, arts and crafts’ exhibits, food and merchant vendors. Admission is free.

Anderson Japanese Gardens
This popular Rockford destination features two beautiful and distinctly different gardens; a formal Japanese and a Garden of Reflection. Admission for adults is $6, age 62 and older are $5. On our way we will stop for lunch at The Olive Garden.

Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain
Visit Millennium Park where you can walk through the “bean”, take in the fountain of faces and all the other wonderful sights. We will end the day with the marvelous Buckingham fountain water and lights show.

Navy Pier Air and Water Show
Chicago’s most popular attraction, Navy Pier, offers lake cruises, shopping, fine dining, fun and fabulous views of the city and lake. For a special treat you can watch the Air and Water Show which begins on Friday this year.

Van Rentals

Rent our 13 passenger van for your special occasion and leave the driving to us. Birthdays, bachelor, bachelorette parties, family outings, etc., our van driver will gladly take you to any destination in the Chicagoland area depending on availability. For more information call (630) 834-8970. Van rental is $25 per hour including driver expenses. There is a two (2) hour minimum.

A Day in Galena

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as we head to beautiful Galena to visit the shops, have lunch and take in the beauty and history of this quaint town. Transportation will be via our van and is included in the fee. Lunch is on your own. The registration deadline is July 11, depending on availability.

Your Place!

Pinochle, bridge, canasta, board games or whatever you choose can be played at Your Place during drop-in hours, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Community Recreation Building, 320 East Wildwood. A group meets each Monday and Friday for pinochle, (we’ll help you brush-up on your skills or learn the game), on the first and third Wednesday for Scrabble, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons for bridge and on the first and third Thursday for other card games. However, everyone is welcome to stop-in anytime we’re open to play their game of choice. Both residents and non-residents are welcome to visit. TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Group

If you’re looking for a support group to help you lose weight, give TOPS a try. Whether you want to lose a few or several pounds, TOPS will help you achieve your goals.
