If you’re interested in exploring this enjoyable outdoor activity join our REI representative to learn the basics. You’ll learn kayaking safety, the different types of kayaks and how to choose the right one for you. Kayaks will be available. The registration deadline is June 17.

Mud Madness

Mud Madness is back! It’s time to get down and dirty once again with this awesome event. We’re bringing in truckloads of top quality black dirt and watering it down to make beautiful mud. Then…it’s playtime! Dance to the music, play tug o’ war or just get muddy! At the end of the day, we’ll crown the Mud King and Queen. Shower stations will be available for your rinse off. Please wear old clothes and shoes.

Summer Sand Blast

We’ll provide the sand and water you provide the creativity for this event for kids of all ages. Bring your buckets, shovels and other necessities to construct your favorite sand formation; people, animals, castles, vehicles, anything goes! It promises to be a blast! Wear your grubby clothes or swim suit. Parental supervision suggested for children under age 8. Preregistration is not necessary.

Family Fishing Derby

This much loved tradition is your chance to “catch the big one” at North Terrace lagoon. A DuPage County Forest Preserve Ranger will speak about other fishing events offered in the county, where specific fish are stocked in addition to answering questions about our local wildlife. Remember, in recognition of National Fishing Week, you don’t need a fishing license for this event. Prizes, provided through the generosity of the Villa Park Fishing Club, will be awarded by age group for the largest, smallest and most fish caught. Bring your own tackle and bait. Under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Fishing Workshop

Bring your fishing rod and reel to this free workshop and learn how to maintain your reel, tie hooks and rigs, put on bobbers and what types of bait are best for our fishing derby on June 7th. This event is hosted by the Villa Park Fishing Club.

There are many deserving dogs in shelters waiting for adoption. Discover how you can rescue a pet and meet several dogs available for adoption.

Movie and Poems - 7:30 p.m. - Lions Park
The entire family, and your dog, will enjoy this fun night beginning with poems all about dogs; bring your own original poem or a favorite by another author. Afterwards, we’ll watch the PG movie “Good Boy” on our big screen. Be sure to bring your blanket, chairs, snacks and bug spray. Poems begin at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 8:00 p.m.

Animals In The Sky: Finding the Constellations

Venetian Night in Chicago

There’s no need to worry about parking when you travel with us to Chicago’s marvelous lighted boat parade concluding with a spectacular fireworks display. You will be dropped-off and picked up at a designated location and time. Be sure to bring your fold-up lawn chair, blanket and snacks if you like. The registration deadline is July 11th, however early registration is encouraged because seating is limited!

GeoCaching

Go on a treasure hunt – high tech style!

Geocaching is a great fun way to explore new locales while on the search for the hidden cache using GPS technology. Join REI to learn the basics of this popular outdoor activity and find a cache during the program. Please bring your own GPS if you have one, if not there will be a few available for use. The registration deadline is July 30.

Flea Fest - Vendors Wanted!!

Our annual Flea Market offers an opportunity to sell unwanted clothing and household items, tools, books, toys, crafts, and more, or promote a business for less than the cost of an ad. This event is well publicized and promises to be a fun day for both vendors and buyers. Children’s activities, music, food and drink add to the day’s fun. Vendor spaces are 10 x 10 ft. You must provide your own tables and chair plus a canopy if you wish.

Vendor registration is due by July 3rd.

Villa Park Summer Games

Let the games begin at our fun filled family event planned in recognition of the Olympics. We’ll build some team spirit as we play tug o’ war, relay races, and other good old-fashioned games. Bring your buckets, shovels and other items for a visit to our sand hill where you can create castles, animals or whatever else comes to your mind. Preregistration is not necessary. Just come for the fun!

Picture Book Picnic

Nature has always inspired mankind to poetic thoughts. And with this said, we will be joined by LeAnn Spencer member of Seeding the Snow (www.seedingthesnow.org) and founder, editor and publisher of the online magazine called A Prairie Journal (www.aprairiejournal.com ) where writers and artists can publish their works about the Prairie and related landscapes. LeAnn will read some works from the Journal and talk about how Nature can serve as your Muse as you write.

Poetry in the Park: It’s the Sound of It!
Poetry is for listening as well as reading. Bring some poetry that you particularly like to hear read, whether it be your own personal words, Shel Silverstein’s humorous verse, or Shakespeare’s Sonnets. It will be a nice time of evening for joining our voices to the nighttime songs of the birds.

Our 30th Year of Kiwanis Summer Concerts

We’re celebrating the 30th year of the Kiwanis Summer Concerts with three action packed nights of family entertainment beginning at 6:30 p.m.

  • Have the family cook take the night off since the concession stand opens at 6:00 p.m. offering hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, and more.
  • Please support our local food pantry by bringing non-perishable food items each night.

(Alcohol is prohibited on the Prairie Path)

July 9 - Villa Park Musicians
Villa Park musicians and local church choirs open up our 30th anniversary series. Come and enjoy the sounds of Villa Park!

July 16 - The Hoyle Brothers
We’ll have a good ole boot stompin’ time as The Hoyle Brothers play our favorite country music with plenty of room for two-steppin’, swing and line dancing.

July 23 - The Only Sons
The Only Sons will return us to the 1980’s with their retro, classic rock, and disco show playing the songs we like to hear, the way we like to hear ‘em. Everyone will enjoy this trip down memory lane. Our partner for this evening is...

Garden Plots

Take advantage of our garden plots located between Douglas and Fulton Streets. Each plot is 20’ x 20’, with access to running water. Plots will be staked and available for planting by May 5, weather permitting. The cost per plot is $14 with a $5 cash deposit required for the key to the water spigot. Limit 2 plots per family.

Gardens of Character

Have your group or organization adopt one of our six “Gardens of Character” this spring! Working with Superintendent of Parks, Marlon Hummell, your group will plant annual flowers in your adoptive garden and we will “plant” a sign identifying your group as the gardeners. Gardens of Character are available at Village Hall, the Iowa Community Center, Community Recreation Building Memorial Park. Dasani Blue Bike Rentals

The Dasani Bike Program is temporarily suspended for maintenance of all bikes and lockers. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will post a notice when the program resumes.

What better way to enjoy the beauty of the Illinois Prairie Path and/or the Great Western Trail than a leisurely bike ride? Our third year of offering DASANI “Blue Bikes” begins April 1 and continues until November 1. Ages 18 and older may borrow a community bike from the bright blue lockers by simply signing a waiver, providing a copy of your valid driver’s license and a $10 cash refundable deposit. Key cards are available at the Community Recreation Building, 320 E. Wildwood Avenue or the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or on Saturdays, (at the Iowa Community Center), only from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00p.m. Bikes are adult sized, single gear without lights and the bike lockers are located adjacent to the Historical Museum, 220 S. Villa Ave. Maps of the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail are available at our offices.

Today we visit the friendly confines of Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs challenge Dusty Baker’s Cincinnati Reds. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please indicate on your registration form the names of the individuals you wish to sit with or if you need special assistance. Want to stay in Wrigleyville after the game? Children’s Birthday Parties

Give your child the best party ever at Villa Park Recreation
where we handle all the details so you can enjoy this special time with your child and guests!

Iowa Community Center

Recommended Age Group: 3 through 9 years

  • Choose from our terrific party themes, or we will be happy to use your decorations for a custom theme.
  • Packages include a special treat for the birthday child, decorations, cupcakes, candles, frozen treats, drinks and paper goods.
  • Party helpers will handle all the details: planning the party, decorating, leading activities, serving refreshments and clean-up.
  • OPTIONAL: Pizza (3 pizzas in any combination of cheese or cheese and sausage) is available for an additional $35 charge.

Iowa Community Center Party Day and Time Availability:

Saturdays 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon or 1:00-2:30 p.m.

Themes - Indoor Parties Only: Dora the Explorer, Pretty Princess/Barbie, Dinosaur, Car Racing, Alien, Creepy Crawlers, Cheerleader, Tropical Beach or Sports.

Fee: $130 for a maximum of 20 people; $3 each additional person; $5 for each additional birthday child.

Jefferson & Lufkin Pools

Recommended Age Group: 5 years & up

  • Two hour party including swimming
  • Special treat for the birthday child, decorations, 3 pizzas (in any combination of cheese or cheese and sausage), cupcakes, candles, drinks and paper goods.
  • Party helper will handle all the details: planning the party, decorating, serving refreshments and clean-up.
  • Pool staff and lifeguards will be on duty, however, adult supervision is encouraged.

Jefferson or Lufkin Pool Party Day and Time availability:

Monday thru Friday 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Weekends 3:00-5:00 p.m. or 6:00- 8:00 p.m.

No Jefferson Pool Parties
June 7, 11, 14 and 28, July 4-July 18

Fee: $160 for a maximum of 20 people; $3 each additional
person; $5 for each additional birthday child.
