Screenwriters find inspiration in various places, and, as the number of movies continuously increases, there is a good chance that you will encounter a movie with a familiar theme.

Screenwriters are often inspired by past events and true stories, other films and series, or popular books. Don’t even get us started on movies based on casinos or Las Vegas – where people play slots and have fun; all the things people would nowadays normally do via xn--q3cb0a2acc6bd4m.com. However, screenwriters sometimes find inspiration in movie games. If you happen to be an avid gamer and a movie buff, here are some of the movies based on video games that you should check out.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

The role of Lara Croft is arguably what made Angelina Jolie go from a familiar actress to a celebrity. The video game first appeared in 1996, and it was an immediate hit. Naturally, a blockbuster movie was sure to follow. Simon West directed the movie, and it was released in 2001. The story follows a young adventurer portrayed by, as we have already said, Angelina Jolie. With a knack for puzzles and adventure, and accompanied by her two guns, she embarks on a journey to find her missing father; however, that is just the beginning as this is the moment when the plot thickens.

The movie had a sequel released in 2003 and titled Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life. It also has a version from 2018 simply titled Tomb Raider. However, instead of Angelina Jolie, Alicia Vikander portrays Lara Croft in this version.

Warcraft

Warcraft was released in 2016, and it was one of the most-anticipated movies based on video games of all time. The movie was announced in 2006 as a partnership between Blizzard and Legendary Pictures, and it was based on the series of games by Blizzard Entertainment, the company that has incredibly immense lore. The story begins with Blizzard’s first game of the Warcraft series: Orcs & Humans from 1994, and it spreads across years and years of different video games. Even to this day, their lore gets continuously updated with the expansion of their popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft.

When it comes to the movie, the story follows a race of Orcs that — after realizing that their world known as Draenor is facing destruction — invade the land of Azeroth through a magic portal and begin attacking human settlements. However, without spoiling the storyline too much, you should most certainly see the movie for yourself.

Mortal Kombat

The Mortal Kombat franchise is one of the games franchises that have been around for a while. The first Mortal Kombat game was released in 1992, and the movie was released shortly after to the joy of many fans. One thing that fans loved — and they still do — about this franchise of video games is the fact that the playstyle remained the same, regardless of the countless new releases.

As far as the movie goes, the plot follows three fighters from Earth as they are summoned to a different realm for the survival of the world as we know it. Unfortunately, the movie features only a handful of fighters included in the game franchise. It does, however, have a sequel from 1997 titled Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. One thing to note is that NetherRealm Studios in partnership with Warner Bros Studios have announced the latest game that is set to be released in 2019.
